I can appreciate how nervous people in the film industry get as they hold a paper in their hands and flip to the review section to see how a snotty somebody viewed your work. Because today, I felt a little shaky as we feverishly read every word about AccolAIDS in the Xtra! newspaper. Here’s what it said:
“Hits: The BC Persons with AIDS Society and its partners held its ninth AccolAIDS gala on Sunday, April 18, to celebrate the bright lights of our provincial HIV & AIDS movement and to raise money for research, support organizations and the cure.
Did I mention it was on the third floor of the new Convention Centre? The ooh-lah-lahliest, right?
If you’re guessing that this annual (now biannual) gala is a slow-moving presentation-heavy production delivered to mature and/or wealthy gay community leaders, you guessed correctly. It is an event to be seen at, particularly during the live auction portion of the evening.
Still, congratulations go out to all the iwnners, and to man-about-town Fred Lee for hosting the sexiest live auction I’ve seen in Vancouver. Thanks for making our province a better place to be gay. – Sean Horlor”
I’d have to say it’s pretty good. The part of about the venue made me proud. I put on something that was the place to be seen with the sexiest live auction in town. rawr. So after that, I googled AccolAIDS and found out that Straight already posted something (I’m still getting used to the idea of the ‘news’ being never a day old):
“Style and substance converged at the ninth AccolAIDS fundraising gala and awards ceremony held last night (April 18) at the Vancouver Convention Centre. A mix of laughter and tears marked the evening as community heroes were celebrated to recognize those who have been toiling away and contributing efforts to the B.C. AIDS movement.
…Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Maestro Bramwell Tovey hosted the evening and entertained the sold-out crowd with comic wit and even a performance on the piano. The James Forrest Trio provided a jazz backdrop as attendees wined and dined, and perused silent auction items.
Later, the ever-entertaining Fred Lee held a live auction, which included hundreds of dollars in donations to help HIV–positive individuals attend the BCPWA Retreat Program. – Craig Takeuchi”
My event was stylish (insert giggles here). Another post by Idris Hudson here: http://www.examiner.com/x-44005-Vancouver-Gay-Nightlife-Examiner~y2010m4d19-AccolAIDS-Part-1–Exceeding-all-expectations-at-Vancouver-Convention-Centre-gala . He goes into detail about how much he liked the venue, center pieces, auction items, music, food… I feel a bigger and bigger smile as i read on.
ps. Sean Horlor – Mr. Socialite for Xtra!, and Idris both particularily liked the tartuffo dessert that evening. Shannon and I hence broke into giggles of proudness
Yup. feels good folks!
